The Late Movies: Flat-Out Crazy Movies from Uganda

I don’t know if the next Hollywood — or even the next Bollywood — is in Uganda, but you’ve certainly got to give them points for trying. These movies have more heart, more weirdness, and more action packed into these short trailers than most Hollywood movies fit into two hours. I’m not sure what I like more, the crazy narration, the visual effects, or the non-stop kicking. It’s all great.

This first one is an anomaly — it’s not an action movie. But it seems like an appropriate way to start things off, given that it’s Valentine’s day. If anyone can decipher the plot to this movie, you’re my hero. It has something to do with black magic … I think.

This is the best thing ever. It’s insanely violent, but the violence is so cartoonish as to be completely inoffensive. I will say no more.

WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX? seems like pretty much the same movie as The Return of Uncle Benon, with slightly less soul-stealing.

I can’t pronounce this next one, but I love it anyway.

ANOTHER DEADLY ACTION MOVIE FROM RAMON FILM PRODUCTIONS DON’T MISS TO WATCH THIS! Or so says the movie’s tagline.

I have no idea why this movie is called Child Sacrifice. It does involve some wicked special effects, though.

Our last film of the night is called I AM THE BOSS! It’s trailer is a bit tough to decipher, but I think it may be about a lady pimp? I’m not certain, though. The video’s awfully honest description notes that this is “AN UP COMMING MOVIE BY mula joseph and Olivia OF KAMPALA UGANDA WHO IS YET TO PROVE A STAR IN THE MOVIE INDUSTRY.”
